Summary

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for coordinating and managing all incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the receipt and dispatch of goods. This role involves maintaining detailed records, verifying shipment contents, and collaborating with various departments to ensure smooth logistics operations.


Main responsibilities

  • Prepare and process shipments, including packing, labelling, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with carriers and schedule pickups and deliveries.
  • Generate shipping labels and packing lists using company software.
  • Ensure all outgoing shipments meet company standards and customer requirements.
  • Inspect and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Record and report discrepancies or damages to the appropriate department.
  • Unload, unpack, and properly store received goods in the warehouse.
  • Update inventory records and notify relevant departments of received items.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining warehouse storage areas.
  • Report low stock levels and assist in reordering supplies.
  • Maintain detailed records of all shipping and receiving activities.
  • Prepare and submit reports on shipping and receiving status, inventory levels, and discrepancies.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and filed appropriately. • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers regarding shipment status and inquiries.
  • Resolve any shipping or receiving issues promptly and professionally.
  • Provide support to other departments as needed to facilitate efficient operations.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and regulations regarding shipping and receiving.
  • Operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.

Key attributes

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment (certification may be required)
  • Basic Math skills and ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving heavy items.

Skills/experience

  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or a related role preferred.
  • Familiarity with shipping software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
